MindWell Bethesda
Convenience
As parents and psychologists, we wanted to create something unique for the families of Bethesda and Metro DC. We know that in addition to excellent psychological care, it is important to provide a warm, pleasant environment in our office. Unlike many doctors’ offices in Bethesda, we chose an office conveniently located on Old Georgetown Road--right off the beltway and away from the awful traffic snarls. Our office has free above ground parking right outside the door. As parents, we understand that taking children through a parking garage or feeding the meter (especially at night) just adds to everyone's stress level. To make sure children and adults alike feel comfortable, our office is not in an intimidating high rise, but a nice brick townhouse. Inside, we maintain an attractive, child/adolescent friendly setting.
Clinical Excellence
The best thing about Mindwell is our psychologists. Every one of our clinicians holds a doctoral degree in psychology--we do not have technicians or students providing treatments. We chose a team of individuals who not only have superior credentials and dedication, they are also warm and caring. Our team is committed to providing the type of care we would want for our own families. For example, we return phone calls personally and within one day. Unlike clinics that only provide testing or only provide therapy, our clinicians provide the full range of services.
Testing
Our testing reports are comprehensive, addressing the individual's needs for medical, educational, and psychological services. Each assessment report includes a plan for how to address the individual's needs across settings for years to come. Our assessments are custom designed around your needs, not simply a 'cookie cutter' approach. We diagnose psychiatric disorders in children as young as two years. We have expertise in diagnosing ADHD, dyslexia, autistic spectrum disorders, depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, eating disorders, and learning problems secondary to medical conditions such as diabetes or sickle cell anemia. We work closely with schools, physicians, and other treating clinicians. Unlike other clinics--we give you a complete testing report in two weeks after the assessment is complete.
Therapy
Our psychotherapy treatments are a collaborative effort with the child/teen or adult and family. For child patients, much of the treatment involves helping parents to assist the child in coping at home. With adolescents, we help them become stronger and more competent individuals. We focus on immediate symptom relief in the initial phases of treatment. We want everyone in the family to feel a sense of hope that things will get better, and that they are in good hands. Our psychologists are well trained in therapy methods that are shown to be most effective by the research. We create individual treatment plans with you to address your needs and concerns.
In Home Behavior and Family Support Program (Specific to Bethesda Office)
Mindwell’s In Home Behavior and Family Support Program was designed for busy families who are overwhelmed with the daily challenges of family life and need professional guidance to make positive and dramatic change.
A Licensed Clinical Psychologist will come to your home to observe your children and natural family life and interview the parents regarding your treatment goals. Then a plan of home-based behavioral interventions will be specifically designed to assist you and your children in achieving the prioritized goals. Behavior plans will be based upon the most effective evidence based behavioral and teaching methods and will be positive and child friendly.
Finally, supportive and motivational in-vivo coaching will be provided to both children and parents in following the treatment plan within the home setting. Families will receive extensive supports in their home for multiple sessions if desired; additionally In-Home services can be provided in the community if community behavior skills are needed (for example, at the store, park).
