Psychology is a second career for Dr. Rebecca Resnik, who began working with
children and adolescents as a special educator in 1996. She graduated Cum Laude and with Honors from the University of Maryland at College Park, which was recently ranked among the top ten Special Education departments in the nation. A year later, she completed her Master's Degree in Special Education at the University of Maryland. Her research focused on best practices for inclusion of children with learning disabilities.
Dr. Resnik spent the next four years teaching special education in various settings, including a cluster program for students with emotional disabilities, a high school inclusion program, and a pre-school special education program. During her years with the school system, she attended over a hundred Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings, where she collaborated with families and other professionals to advocate for the needs of children and adolescents. In 2001, Dr. Resnik left teaching to begin her doctoral studies at the George Washington University, earning a Doctor of Psychology Degree (Psy.D.) with a concentration in Child and Adult Therapy.
Dr. Resnik completed a pre-doctoral internship in Pediatric Psychology and Neuropsychology at Mount Washington Pediatric Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. During her internship, she received training in in-patient pediatric psychology, neuropsychological assessment, infant assessment, and pediatric feeding disorders. During her neuropsychological training, she was
privileged to assess children with autistic spectrum disorders, seizure disorders, ADHD, and traumatic brain injury. During her pre-doctoral training, she participated in research of early interventions for pre-school aged children and attachment theory.
Dr. Resnik is a licensed clinical psychologist providing both assessment and therapy services. At MindWell, she particularly enjoys the challenge of custom designing a testing battery to address the specific needs of the individual and his family. Dr. Resnik provides therapy that integrates theoretical orientations to provide both symptom relief and meaningful improvements in the quality of the individual's relationships. Dr. Resnik has special interest in parenting, diagnosis of developmental disabilities, early childhood assessment, and emotional assessment. Dr. Resnik enjoys writing and speaking about psychology. She has appeared on Voice of America television and in Washington Parent Magazine. She also manages the ADHD and Parenting Expert Forums for Medhelp.com. Dr. Resnik has two young sons and a teenage stepson, which keeps things lively at home.
